Student-led conferences involve sharing of those accomplishments that they are proud of and to also look at those areas they are looking to make plans for improvement. Please sign up for any times that you could make for a 15-minute conference (both guardian and student to attend). If you need to have an interview scheduled in collaboration with another teacher or around a siblings schedule, please contact me directly: firstname.lastname@example.org

Progress Reports are Coming
Have you been reading the Google Guardian e-mails? Each week or each day, depending on what you signed up for, you will be seeing the stream of announcements and activities from the Google Classroom. This is designed to act as a sentence starter at home. If you want more information about the items you are seeing, ask the student in your home to log in to their account and show you the classroom post. From here they can show you the documents they have created through the activities by clicking on the links inside Classroom.
If you have questions after reviewing the Classroom with your child, please feel free to contact me. Progress reports are coming home November 21, 2017 with student-led interviews after. I have tried to make sure there are lots of opportunities to work on those items that have caused difficulty. While some students have eagerly used these opportunities to try and build, some have yet to see the value of these types of opportunities and have settled for mark lower than they should. My door is always open - ask me for help or to stay in and I will.
Special thanks to all those who managed to come out tonight. There were issues with catering and the weather, but everyone was in good spirits. Didn't make it out? No problem. You still know how to get a hold of me and follow our journey. What a wonderful evening - now off to class I go #authenticassessment101
Do you BLOG?
I can't claim to be an expert at blogging, but I do try. I have included a little blurb about the first month of school. Hoping to help with time management by having you involved in what is happening. Check out web updates, Tweets and blog posts.
Open House - October 4, 2017
The annual "MEET THE TEACHER" Open House will happen on October 4, 2017. The classroom will be open and curriculum documents will be available for you to view. Wednesday evening happens to be when my own university studies are and I am not sure at this point if I can get approval to miss a class. In the event that I am not available and you have questions, please feel free to e-mail or use the contact form to gain more information.
If you are interested in meeting in person, please set up a time after school with me to visit and discuss any questions or concerns.
Welcome - Let's play a game ....
My name is Kristen Colquhoun. I have been teaching for 13 years and most of those have been in special education. I have 2 kids and 2 step kids. My partner and I play drums in a competitive pipe band and spend our summers touring around Ontario to play in competitions.
While you may think all teachers spend their summers off, I was working through two more of my Masters of Education courses. I spent the summer at home with the kids doing day trips to the zoo, Canada's Wonderland and anywhere the van would take us. The weeks leading up to school have been very busy planning a wedding (our wedding is September 8th), prepping the classroom and planning lessons.
I didn't get out much with my motorcycle this year because the kids are too little to be passengers just yet, but we went out whenever we could.
Here is a 2 minute introductory video to share a little bit more about myself, in stop motion format, via help from one of my former students.
One item in the bio isn't truthful - did you catch it? Fill out this form to enter to win a prize. One student prize and one parent prize.
