Grade 6 - Space
Cosmos - All that is or ever was or ever will ever be.
|
|
During our first lesson we will be exploring the first episode of Cosmos. We used this to help us understand the size and age of Earth - it really is amazing what we have learned and know at this point. Some of what we have known has changed a great deal. This leaves us with misconceptions about science. Time to fix this in Assignment 1 of the Space Unit. Due Jan 22nd.
What does Scientific Exploration look like on Mars?
|
During this activity, students will watch a National Geographic video about life on Mars and answer questions along the way.
In this edpuzzle, they will have the opportunity to pause, stop and answer questions. The program connects with Google Classroom and will allow analysis of how long students spend watching before answering each question and how many times they rewatch before trying a question. This will allow me to provide the right intervention on each topic for the class or individual students. |
Building a Physical Model - Inquiry Project
Developing inquiry skills is of vital importance to 21st-century learners. During this project to wrap up the space unit we have asked students to pick an area of interest and create a physical model or demonstration to help explain what is going on. Topics vary from black holes to how the phases of the moon appear in the night sky (this is the one I am working on during this project). They will have had 3 weeks to work on this before March Break. Some are working in partners and others alone. Those working in a partnership will have to complete 2 reflections at the end (e.g., peer and self). The week after March break students will present their model/demo to the class.
